Who we are
In our ongoing effort to provide decent and affordable housing for low-income families, Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Wenatchee Area partners with God, local families, and the community. As part of a global nonprofit housing organization, we are driven by Christian principles that aim to put God's love into action by building homes, communities, and hope.
Habitat for Humanity believes that everyone deserves a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter should be a matter of conscience and action for all.
Founded in 1990 by community-minded citizens, Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Wenatchee Area addresses the need for affordable housing in our community. Our local affiliate is operated by a volunteer Board of Directors composed of community members and is responsible for fundraising, family selection, home construction, volunteer coordination and all operational functions.

Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Wenatchee Area operates with an open-door policy: Everyone who believes in the need for decent, affordable housing is welcome to join our efforts, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views, or any other distinctions that often divide us. We invite volunteers and supporters from all walks of life to contribute to our mission of providing safe and affordable housing to those in need.
As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliates do not proselytize. This means we do not offer assistance with the expectation or requirement that people must adhere to a specific faith or listen to messaging designed to induce conversion. Our mission is to unite people under the common goal of building homes, communities, and hope.
Our Approach
At Habitat for Humanity, we believe that people need a hand up, not a handout, to improve their housing situation. We work alongside individuals who are willing to invest in their future, helping them to achieve the dream of homeownership. Families who qualify purchase their homes from Habitat with an affordable, low interest or no-interest mortgage.
Who We Serve
We proudly serve the cities of Wenatchee, East Wenatchee, and surrounding communities within a 5-mile radius of the city limits. Our area is home to approximately 70,000 people and is recognized as one of the nation's premier fruit-growing regions. Through our efforts, Habitat has helped many local families achieve stable and affordable living, following the guidelines set out in our family selection criteria.
The housing conditions in South Wenatchee, a diverse and low-income area, have been a focal point for both the city and Habitat for Humanity due to the significant need for improvement. Since 1990, we have built numerous homes in this area, with our current project located on Frances Court near Mission View Elementary School.
By the end of 2014, Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Wenatchee Area had constructed 48 homes, providing safe, affordable housing for more than 200 individuals, many of whom are children.
Affordable Housing
Habitat homes are designed to be modest in size and built with materials that ensure long-term affordability. We follow specific guidelines to keep costs low, making homeownership attainable for low-income families. Our homes are sold at cost with affordable, low interest or no-interest mortgages that typically span 25 to 30 years. The active involvement of volunteers and partner families in the construction process significantly reduces the overall cost compared to conventional housing.
Leadership
Our Board of Directors consists of 9 dedicated volunteers who govern Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Wenatchee Area. Each member either chairs or serves on a Habitat committee. The Board meets once a month, along with an Executive Session between regular Board meetings. Our standing committees include Build, Fundraising, Family Selection, Executive, and Store.
